The announcement of the Chinese author Mo Yan as the laureate of the 2012 Nobel Prize in literature was a milestone in the history of our publishing house.
"A Late Bloomer" is a collection of 12 novellas, presenting 12 realistic or absurd stories rooted in China's villages spanning from the last century to today. Chinese author Mo Yan, who left school for a life working the fields at the age of 12, has become the first Chinese citizen ever to win the Nobel prize in literature, praised by the Swedish Academy Mo Yan delivered his Nobel Lecture on 7 December 2012, at the Swedish Academy, Stockholm. He was introduced by Kjell Espmark, member of the Nobel Committee f Mo, renowned for his imaginative and humanistic fiction, was awarded the 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature. He is also a professor at Beijing Normal University. He expressed his gratefulness to the Oxford college and recalled his love to literature since his childhood. Mo's prize may give powerful encouragement to the country's writers as the more reflective of Chinese lives their works are, the more possible they arise as a world literature.

The Nobel Peace Prize is not awarded for literary achievements, nor is it awarded by the same committee that awards the Nobel Prize in Literature. Thus when discussing the merits of Mo Yan's receiving the Nobel Prize in Literature, I think it is misleading for us to compare its validity to that of awarding the Peace Prize to Liu.
